Top Moments of 2020-21: Men’s Swimming & Diving

TOWSON, Md. -- Few teams had as much energy throughout a most unique season than the Towson University men's swimming and diving team. From intersquad meets in the fall through the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships, the Tigers were their own biggest cheerleaders.

Through the summer, the Top Moments of 2020-21 will run on TowsonTigers.com, with today's spotlight on the men's swimming and diving program. Below are capsules on the top three moments of the season.

3) Will Canny's (Second to) Last Dive
Capping off one of the best diving careers in program history, Will Canny finished second at his final CAA Diving Championship in both the 3- and 1-meter boards. Thanks to a 56.25 score on his final dive, Canny pushed his total score to a 305.00, becoming the only diver in program history with multiple scores over 300.

2) Brian Benzing Sets CAA Record
Rounding out a season of dominance, freshman sensation Brian Benzing smashed a CAA record in the 100-yard breaststroke. After winning the preliminary round, Benzing laid down a 52.57 second swim in the finals, setting a Towson, CAA All-Time and Championship record, capping an unbeaten season in that event during collegiate meets.

1) Towson Captures Its First CAA Men's Title
Leading from the very first swimming event of the 2021 CAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, Towson dominated all three days at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center. Throughout the week, the Tigers racked up 842.50 points, well over 200 more points than UNCW's second-place total of 619. Towson won all but one relay event, saw records fall and vengeance served cold. Head Coach Jake Shrum was named CAA Men's Coach of the Year while Brian Benzing was tapped as the Most Outstanding performer at the meet.

To cap off the season, Will Canny got one last celebratory dive with his teammates.
