VERONA, N.Y. – Playing two rounds on the first day of the Turning Stone Intercollegiate, the Towson University men's golf team improved 13 strokes between rounds and stands in seventh going into Monday.
After shooting 305 as a team in round one, Towson improved to 292 in round two, the second-biggest improvement between rounds among all teams in the tournament. As a team, Towson is currently at +21.
Brad Riley stands tied for tenth individually after the first two rounds, shooting 72 and 70 respectively to be at -2 overall on the par-72 course. Combined on the day, Riley had four birdies, including two on the second round with no bogies.
Behind Riley, two Tigers are currently tied for 39
th overall individually:
Julian Gonzalez had rounds of 77 and 74 while
Philip Minnehan shot a 76 and 75 as both are at +7 through the first day. Minnehan earned three birdies in a row with holes 14-16 in the second round.
At +9 after two rounds is
Jeremy Summerson, including a 73 on the second round. Finishing up with a second round of 77 is
Justin Griffith, in the fifth spot for the Tigers.
LSU stands in first place after the first day at 554 (-22), following by host team Missouri at 565 (-11). Towson is currently ahead of Sacred Heart, Boston College, St. Francis, Binghamton, Mount St. Mary's, Youngstown State, Niagara and Canisius.
The team wraps up play tomorrow, returning to the Turning Stone Resort to conclude the season-opening tournament.
