VERONA, N.Y. – Brad Riley earned an 11
th place finish over the two-day Turning Stone Intercollegiate Tournament as the Towson University men's golf team got eighth place in its opening competition of the 2021-22 campaign.
Riley finished one-under par (215) in the three-round tournament, with the teams competing in the final round on Monday. He tied for 11
th place in a field of 86 individual golfers. Riley shot a 73 on the final day, having a 73 or under all three rounds, including a low of 70 on the second round and eight total bogies.
In his last two tournaments, including the 2021 CAA Championship, Riley stands at -1 combined in the six rounds.
On the team end, Towson finished in eighth place out of 15 teams with a team score of 898 (+34), just two strokes behind Boston College in seventh.
Jeremy Summerson repeated his second round performance in the third for 73, finishing tied for 34
th, up nearly 20 spots after two rounds, at 226 (+10). Summerson earns at least a +10 in his second of last three tournaments.
Close behind Summerson were
Phil Minnehan at +12 (228), who had three birdies in his final round to total 76 to complete his first collegiate tournament, and
Julian Gonzalez at +13 (229). Minnehan and Gonzalez finished tied for 43
rd and 47
th respectively.
Justin Griffith rounded out the team, having a final round of 83.
Missouri won the tournament with a score of 847 (-17), going ahead of LSU (-15) in the third round.
Next weekend, Towson returns to the state of New York to compete in the Doc Gimmler Tournament, hosted by St. John's in Farmingdale.
