Women’s Swimming and Diving Falls at Drexel

PHILADELPHIA – In the final road dual meet of the 2021-22 season, the Towson University women's swimming and diving team was edged at Drexel Saturday afternoon, falling 160-140 at the Dragons' home pool at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.

Meagan Clark picked up two individual wins in two different disciplines while diver Sarah DiGaetano hit an NCAA Zone Qualifying Score on the 1-meter board. Tiffany Matulis and Samantha Casolo each put in two top-three individual finishes while Karlee Carminati had third-place times in the distance events.

How it Happened
  • The Tigers led the day with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing just over a second back as Parker Schulz, Matulis, Hailey Ritter and Maddie Mince finished in 1 minute, 47.01 seconds. The winning time was 1:45.81.
  • In a tight 1,000-yard freestyle race, with just six seconds between first and third, Clark emerged on top in 10:16.19, the fastest 1,000 yard swim for a Tiger this season. Carminati finished six seconds later in third with a 10:22.23.
  • Katie Nunez and Bridget Thomas finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle as the former went in at 1:56.30 while the latter finished less than a half-second later in 1:56.64.
  • The Tigers went 3-4-5 in the 100-yard backstroke, paced by a third-place finish from Parker Schulz (57.77). Victoria Dichak touched fourth in 59.58 while Maddie Frick was fifth at 59.86.
  • Matulis snagged second-place points in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:06.18, followed by Tink Tompkins (1:09.56) in fourth.
  • It was a Towson sweep in the 200-yard butterfly, paced by a winning time of 2:08.65 from Casolo. Laura Gaffney took second in 2:11.51 while Holly Greenleaf was third in 2:13.39, a half-second ahead of Drexel's first swimmer.
  • The tightest race of the day came in the splash and dash as Maddie Mince finished second in 24.45, just one hundredth of a second behind first place (24.44). Ritter took third in 24.50 to round out a narrow top three.
  • Schulz finished third in the 100-yard freestyle (52.48) with Nunez close behind in fourth (52.96). Ava Enriquez was fifth at 53.63.
  • Suzannah Mills took third in the 200-yard backstroke with a 2:06.13.
  • Clark snagged her second win of the day, taking the 200 yard breaststroke by over a second, stopping the clock in 2:22.65. Matulis was third in 2:27.66 while Greenleaf was fourth at 2:29.62.
  • Rookie Bridget Thomas was second overall in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in 5:08.86. Carminati was third in the race with a 5:11.96.
  • Towson picked up first- and third-place points in the 100-yard butterfly as Ritter won in 56.65 with Casolo in less than two seconds later at 58.18. Mince was fourth at 58.35.
  • Mills, Nunez and Enriquez stacked points in the 200-yard IM as Mills finished second in 2:12.00. Nunez (2:12.09) and Enriquez (2:16.10) took third and fourth, respectively,
  • In the final swimming event, the Tigers took second in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Mince, Ritter, Clark and Schulz combined for a 1:36.15.
  • On the boards, DiGaetano grabbed first place in the 1-meter event, hitting a Zone Diving Qualifying score of 271.28, a 13-point season best. Christina Coleman took third with a score of 257.85.
  • Coleman won the 3-meter competition, scoring a 273.60 to improve her season-best by over 10 and a half points. DiGaetano was fourth with a 245.47 while Hayley Beutel finished fifth with a 243.68, a 12-point improvement on the year.
Up Next for Towson
  • The Tigers have one final dual meet on the calendar as Towson squares up against Delaware.
  • Towson hosts the Blue Hens on Saturday, January 29 with a 10 a.m. start time at Burdick Hall Pool.
