DURHAM, N.H. – Behind the highest season-opening score in program history, the Towson University women's gymnastics team collected a 194.000-192.250 win on the road at the University of New Hampshire on Sunday.

Towson had six top-three finishes during the meet, while dominating the uneven bars, with all six competitors in the top seven scores for the event at Lundholm Gymnasium for the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) meet.

The Tigers (1-0) picked up individual wins from rookie Steph Macasu (9.850) on the bars and tied for first on the floor with Amy Stewart and Paige Casper, who each scored a 9.800 on the event. Lauren Bolen (9.750) and Camille Vitoff (9.750) took second and third, respectively, on the vault.

UNH (0-1) swept the balance beam, led by a pair of 9.875 scores from Alyssa Worthington and Hailey Lui. The day's lone all-arounder, Kylie Gorgenyi, took third on the beam with a 9.850, and won the vault with a 9.800.

  • Classmate Lauren Keener posted a 9.775 while Amanda Pedicelli notched the same score in her first college bars routine.
  • Clara Hong, Cassidy Stuart and Grace Vaillancourt all put down 9.675 on the bars.
  • Rotating to the vault for the second turn, Towson extended its lead to 96.975-96.050 after the Wildcats struggled on the bars.
  • Making her season debut, Lauren Bolen led the Tigers with a solid 9.750 on vault, the second-best score of the day. Cami Vitoff followed closely behind with a 9.700, the third-highest point total of the day. Jenna Weitz and Mia Davis added a pair of 9.600 scores while another freshman, Elise Tisler, posted a 9.575 in her first college meet on vault. Towson edged the vault total with a 48.225 while the host Wildcats scored a 48.250 in the first rotation.

Hong put up a 9.775 in her first-ever college beam routine followed by a 9.650 from Emerson Hurst. Bolen rounded out the scoring with a 9.425 after leading off the event.
Behind the Numbers

  • Towson's 194.000 points are the most for the Tigers in a season debut.
  • The Tigers out-scored the Wildcats on both bars (48.750-47.800) and floor (48.575-47.725).
  • Towson saw a bevy of debuts from true freshmen: Mia Davis, Clara Hong, Lauren Keener, Steph Macasu and, Elise Tisler.
Quotables - Head Coach Jay Ramirez
I think these athletes have overcome so much adversity just to be here at this moment. We've been dealing with COVID like everyone else, and they rose to the occasion, even through all the trials and tribulations. They brought it tonight to seal the win.

I couldn't be more proud of the team coming out and getting the highest score to open a season in program history.

It's all about getting experience. The only person in our bar lineup last year was Grace (Vaillancourt) so we had five people who have never done a bar routine before and hitting six for six says a lot about where we are headed with this team.

Up next for Towson
  • The Tigers make their home debut on Friday, Jan. 14 with a quad meet.
  • Towson welcomes No. 30 West Virginia, William & Mary and West Chester to SECU Arena.
  • Meet time is set for 6 p.m. and will be the Tigers' annual Pink Meet in support of those who have and are currently battling breast cancer.
