TOWSON, Md. – Towson women's soccer junior goalkeeper
Riley Melendez was named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Melendez earned the award after posting a pair of shutouts in a 1-0-1 week for the Tigers that included a 2-0 win against College of Charleston and a 0-0 draw against UNCW on Sunday. Melendez made eight saves over the two games including six against Charleston. This is the first defensive player of the week award this season and the third in her career for Melendez.
The Springfield, Va. native is having a career year, posting a 0.48 goals-against average, allowing just seven goals this season. She has made 53 saves with a .883 save percentage and nine shutouts in 2022. For her career, Melendez is second all-time in goals against average at 0.89 and is sixth with an .815 save percentage. Her 17 career shutouts rank third all time.
Towson will return to play on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. against William & Mary at Tiger Field.
