NEWARK, Del. – The Towson University women's cross country team had a successful Saturday morning, winning the Delaware Invite by one point with an average time of 24:47.78. Five of the Tigers finished in the top-10.
"We've come a long way. I am just so proud of the ladies on our team," assistant coach Evan Freeman said. "We had our first meet on this course at the start of the season and seeing how much our confidence and trust in each other has risen since then is very encouraging."
Graduate student
Beighley Ayers earned her first collegiate win, placing first after clocking a time of 24:07.11.
"It was a really good effort by the whole team," Ayers stated. "We worked together really well in the beginning and then Aubrey [Schaffer] and I really pushed the second half and had a successful end."
Right behind Ayers was
Aubrey Schaffer, who finished in second place after running a time of 24:23.65.
"I'm really excited to be back at Delaware," Schaffer responded when asked about her outlook on the upcoming CAA Championship meet. "It's a challenging course but I feel like we know it really well now and we're prepared. I think our team showed out today and that was a great confidence boost for us. When we come back here [for the CAA Championship meet] we're going to be even more prepared and run even better."
Trailing behind Schaffer was
Alison Betler who finished in seventh place with a time of 24:56.50.
Morgan Loewe secured the eighth place spot after running a time of 25:04.73.

"To be able to go 1-2 and get the team win, we checked all the boxes today," Freeman added. "The ladies raced tough and overcame the odds."
The Tigers will spend the next couple weeks preparing for CAA Championships before returning to Delaware to compete in the event on Oct 28.
