TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's swimming and diving team stands in second place with 233 points after day one of the Patriot Invitational in Fairfax, Virginia, trailing only the George Mason Patriots with 264 points. Florida Atlantic finished the day one point off the Tigers mark, while Richmond (140), American (120) and Marist (56) trailed behind.
The Tigers' men's squad stand in second place with 250 points, trailing only Florida Atlantic with 320. The hosting Patriots finished the day third with 189 points. American and Marist's men's squads each stand in fourth with 114 points.

How it happened:
On the women's side

Katie Nunez, Maddie Mince, Hailey Ritter and Ava Enriquez opened the meet with second place finish in the 200 free relay at 1:32.74.

Lizzy Jones placed fifth in the 500 free, clocking in at 5:03.27.

In the 200 IM, Maddie Frick finished seventh at 2:05.65.

Mince (23.49) and Ritter (23.54) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 50 free. Nunez, Enriquez, Shay Walker, Parker Schulz and Janine Murphy all scored for the Tigers in the B final.

Ally Frame, Tiffany Matulis, Enriquez and Nunez finished second in the 400 medley at 3:42.72.
On the Men's side

The 200 free relay team of Brian Benzing, Michael Fazio, TJ Bearor and Daniel McLaughlin started the day off hot for the Tigers, setting a meet record with a time of 1:20.28. The previous record was 1:20.80 set last year by Florida Atlantic.

Benzing's time of 4:30.61 was good for second place in the 500 free. Ryan Bookstein finished sixth at 4:32.64.

Noah Diacumakos (2nd, 1:48.66), Patrick Flint (3rd, 1:49.07) and David Walton (7th, 1:50.31) all scored for the Tigers in the A Final of the 200 IM.

Fazio took first in the 50 free with a time of 20.03, which is the third-fastest time in Towson program history. McLaughlin placed fifth at 20.58.

The relay team of Evan Bota, Diacumakos, Benzing and Fazio capped the night with a meet and pool record in the 400 medley with a time of 3:13.92.

The Patriot Invitational will continue tomorrow (Nov. 18) with 10 a.m. preliminary swims and final heats starting at 6 p.m. Diving will commence at 12:30 p.m.
