The Towson University baseball team has announced the schedule for the 2023 season.
"With the addition of three new conference opponents and our highly competitive non-conference schedule, this ranks as one of our toughest schedules in recent years. It will be interesting to see where we finish," fifth-year head coach
Matt Tyner said.
The slate features 55 total games, including 28 home games at John B. Schuerholz Park. All home games are free to attend for the public. Game times for road games are to be announced (TBA).
The Tigers kick off the campaign in Spartanburg, S.C. to face off with USC Upstate in a three-game series starting Feb. 17. On Feb. 18, the squad will play the second game against USC Upstate and face off with Southern Illinois University in a neutral site game. Towson will cap the USC Upstate series that Sunday, Feb. 19.
From Feb. 24 to 26, the squad will be in Winston-Salem, N.C. for the Wake Forest Tournament. The Tigers will play Mount St. Mary's on Friday at 12 p.m. On Saturday at 6 p.m., the team matches up with the hosting Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Sunday's 10 a.m. game against Binghamton wraps up the tournament for the Tigers.
The Villanova Wildcats will make the first visit of the season to Schuerholz Park on Mar. 1 at 2 p.m. Towson hosts Eastern Michigan for the opening series starting Friday, Mar. 3, at 2 p.m. The Tigers and Eagles will play a doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 4, with game one set for 11 a.m. The teams finish up the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
On Mar. 8, The Tigers make a mid-week trip to Arlington, Va. to face George Washington. That weekend, Towson opens the CAA slate with a visit to Greensboro, N.C. to face off with North Carolina A&T in a three-game series from Mar. 10 to Mar. 12.
Towson returns home to host Marist for a Tuesday game on Mar. 14 at 3 p.m. The Tigers and Red Foxes will square up again a second time the following day, Mar. 15. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. Followed by a three-game home series with UNCW from Mar. 17 to 19. Friday's game starts at 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday's games are set for 1 p.m.
The next trip for the Tigers starts in Durham, N.C. for a Tuesday clash with the Duke Blue Devils on Mar. 21. On Wednesday, Mar. 22, they'll visit Richmond for a standalone game against the Spiders. Towson will cap that road trip with a three-game series against Charleston in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. from Mar. 24 to Mar. 26.
Coppin State visits Towson the following week for a Tuesday matchup on Mar. 28 at 3 p.m. Elon will make the trek up that weekend, Mar. 31 to Apr. 2, for a three-game series. First pitch Friday is set for 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday's games start at 1 p.m.
Local foe UMBC comes to face Towson on Tuesday, Apr. 4, at 3 p.m. On Apr. 5, George Mason visits for a 3 p.m. showdown. George Washington will make an appearance at Schuerholz Park on Tuesday, Apr. 11, to cap the Tigers' six-game homestand.
From Apr. 14 to 16, the squad will be in Hempstead, N.Y. facing off with the Hofstra Pride in a three-game CAA series.
The Richmond Spiders come to town for a Wednesday game on Apr. 19. Game time is 3 p.m. The Tigers jump right back into conference play that weekend against the Monmouth Hawks from Apr. 21 to Apr. 23. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. on Friday. Saturday and Sunday's games will start at 1 p.m. On Tuesday, Apr. 25, Lehigh pays a visit for a 3 p.m. game.
The Tigers follow that homestand with a visit to Charlottesville, Va. to face the Virginia Cavaliers on Apr. 26. That weekend, the team travels to Brookline, Mass. for a three-game series against the Northeastern Huskies from Apr. 28 to 30.
The Tribe of William & Mary come to Towson for a weekend series from May 5 to May 7. First pitch Friday is 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday's games are each set for 1 p.m.
On May 9, the Tigers make the short drive across town for a Tuesday game against the UMBC Retrievers. Newark, Delaware is the next stop to face off with the Blue Hens from May 12 to 14.
To cap the home and conference slate, the Tigers host the Stony Brook Sea Wolves from May 18 to 20. Thursday and Friday's start times are 3 p.m. First pitch for Saturday's regular season finale is set for 1 p.m.
The CAA Tournament will be hosted by Charleston at the Ballpark at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. The tournament, comprised of the top six teams, will run from May 24 to May 27.
