Benzing, Dorner Named CAA Weekly Winners

RICHMOND, Va. – For a second time each this season, Towson University's men's swimming and diving athletes Brian Benzing and Ajani Dorner have earned weekly honors from the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). The league office made its announcement Tuesday morning.

Benzing was selected as the CAA Men's Co-Swimmer of the Week while Dorner was named CAA Men's Diver of the Week as both contributed heavily to Towson's 165-129 win over league rival Delaware Saturday at Burdick Hall Pool.

Benzing, who hails from Catonsville, Maryland, picked up two individual wins while adding to a pair of relay wins. The sophomore continued his unbeaten run in the 100-yard breaststroke, winning by over three seconds with a 54.02, the third-fastest time in the CAA this year. Later in the afternoon, Benzing added a win in the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking a 2:01.97 for a four-second victory and the fourth-best time in the league this season. Benzing swam the second leg in the victorious 200-yard medley relay before leading off in the 400-yard freestyle relay, setting up a Towson win.

Dorner collected wins on both boards this weekend against Delaware. The junior notched a season-best 273.45 on the 3-meter board to lead off the day before posting a 280.73 on the 1-meter board to dominate the event by a 30-point margin.

Delaware's Simeon Sabev was named alongside Benzing as the CAA Co-Men's Swimmer of the Week.

Towson's diving team makes a trip to Newark, Delaware for a Last Chance Meet at Rawstrom Natatorium this weekend.

The swimmers are idle until CAA Championships (Feb. 16-19) in Christiansburg, Virginia as the Tigers look to defend their title.
