CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – After the first day of swimming and diving at the 2022 CAA Championships, the Towson University men's swimming and diving team sits third overall in the team standings after two relays and one diving event at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.

The reigning Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) champion, Towson collected 86 points to stay even in third with Delaware. UNCW leads the standings with 131 points with Drexel in second with 107. William & Mary is fifth with 58 points.

How it Happened

• After qualifying third in the 1-meter diving competition, Ajani Dorner, who had the highest degree of difficulty in the field at 16.4, finished seventh in the finals, scoring a 232.00. Dorner scored a 239.75 in the preliminary round.
• Opening up the relay portion of the day, Towson's cluster of Evan Bota, Brian Benzing, Nick McClure and Ryan Baldino finished second in the 200-yard medley relay, touching in 1 minute, 26.64 seconds, nearly a full second below seed time. UNCW won the event by just two-tenths of a second in 1:26.43.
• Day one came to a close with the 800-yard freestyle relay. Again, the Tigers finished second overall with a 6:33.66, three seconds adrift of UNCW's first-place time of 6:31.60. TJ Bearor led off, followed by Michael Fazio, Luke Schwar, and Baldino.
• Towson clawed its way back after falling behind the pace by over a body length and UNCW's team.

• A full day of action kicks off Thursday morning at 10 a.m. for preliminary heats.
• Thursday's lineup includes: 500 yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, 50-yard freestyle, women's 3-meter diving, and the 400-yard medley relay.
• Diving prelims are slated for a 12:30 p.m. start
• Swimming final heats for the day kick off at 6 p.m.
