CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – The Towson University men's swimming and diving team finished in third place at the completion of the 2022 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Swimming & Diving Championships.
Ryan Baldino and Nick McClure capped off the final day of the four-day meet with individual first place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard butterfly races. The 400-yard freestyle relay team also took home gold for the Black & Gold for the second consecuitve season in the race.
The Tigers ended with 639.5 points to finish in third place overall. Delaware took second place by just 3.5 points to finish in second place (643). UNCW remained on top to win the conference title with 886.5 total points.
How it Happened
- Evan Bota and Brendan Farrar finished second and third in the 200-yard backstroke clocking times of 1:49.99 and 1:50.06, respectively.
- Baldino won the 100-yard freestyle, touching in 43.98. Michael Fazio was right behind him to take silver with a time of 44.23. Luke Schwar also just missed the podium in fourth, clocking 44.45.
- In a very close race, Brian Benzing took second in the 200-yard breaststroke, touching in 1:55.33 to record an NCAA B Cut mark.
- McClure took home gold in the 200-yard butterfly, clocking 1:45.13, an NCAA B Cut time. Carson Bauer also came from behind to take second in the B Final (1:51.84).
- To cap off the CAA Championships, the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Baldino, Benzing, Fazio and Schwar clocked a time of 2:54.80 to win the race in dominant fashion.
