Gymnastics Logs Another Full Set of 49.000s in Tri-Meet

TOWSON, Md. – For the second time this season, the Towson University women's gymnastics team posted scores of 49.000 or better in every rotation en route to a second-place finish in a tri-meet at SECU Arena.

Towson (12-3) finished second with 196.525 points. West Virginia finished first, just half a tenth ahead of Towson with a 196.575. Ursinus College took third in the meet with a 185.175.

Tigers finished first in three events, including an out-right first-place finish on bars from freshman Clara Hong. Lauren Bolen and Camille Vitoff tied for the top spot on vault while Emerson Hurst was tied for first on the beam.

How it Happened
  • The Tigers' last two vaulters finished tied for first as Bolen and Vitoff each logged scores of 9.850. West Virginia's Kianna Yancey also tied for first.
  • Three Tigers, Nikki Borkowski, Mia Davis and Elise Tisler, all scored 9.775 to tie for seventh.
  • Two rookies led the Tigers on bars as Hong scored a career-best 9.900. Lauren Keener finished third in the standing's with a 9.850, also a personal best.
  • Steph Macasu led a block of Tigers with a fifth-place finish with a 9.825, followed by Grace Vaillancourt (9.800) and Sarah Girot (9.775) tied for seventh.
  • Hurst tied for the beam win with a 9.900, just shy of her season-best (9.925). Keener hit another person best with a 9.875 while Jenna Weitz joined her in a tie for third.
  • One of the top floor teams in the country, West Virginia swept the top three spots in the standings. Amy Stewart was the top Tiger, scoring a 9.850 and tying for fourth. Clara Hong was seventh with a 9.825 while Bolen (9.800) was eighth and Weitz (9.775) and Borkowski (9.775) tied for ninth.
  • Towson did not have an all-arounder. West Virginia's Kendra Combs was the only one to go all-around, scoring a 39.200.

Behind the Numbers
  • Sporting a 1990s-inspired leo for alumnae night at the George McGinty Alumni Meet, Towson scored a 49.325 on beam, the second-best beam score in program history, trailing only a 49.400 earlier this year.
  • The Tigers improved to 10-1 at home with the split. The half-tenth difference with West Virginia was the lone blemish on Towson's home slate to date.
  • Towson's 196.525 was the second-best score for the Tigers this year and tied for the fourth-best score in program history. It is the second-best score under third-year head coach Jay Ramirez.
Up next for Towson
  • The Tigers head west to Utah for a pair of meets at No. 21 Utah State.
  • Towson takes on the Aggies on Friday, Feb. 25 in what is now a tri-meet with BYU, currently ranked 19th on Road to Nationals.
  • Meet time in Logan, Utah is slated for a 9 p.m. ET start, 7 p.m. MT.
