No. 23 Gymnastics Adds 195.600 Road Score to the Mix

LOGAN, Utah – After spending nearly the entire month of February at SECU Arena, the Towson University gymnastics team made its longest road trip in almost 10 year, posting a 195.600 Friday night at Utah State's Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

No. 23 Towson (12-5) finished third at the tri-meet, trailing No. 12 BYU's 196.575 and host No. 14 Utah State's 196.225.

Freshman Mia Davis picked up the first podium finish of her career, tying for first on vault in Towson's third rotation with a career-best. Classmate Clara Hong added a third-place finish on the beam with a career-best.

Ranked 23rd in the RoadToNationals.com National Qualifying Score (NQS), Towson now swaps in a 195.600 road score, its second-best score away from SECU Arena this season.

How it Happened
  • Towson began the meet on beam before rotating to floor, vault and a long wait before bars.
  • Hong dropped a career-best 9.900 on the beam in the five spot for the Tigers. The freshman nabbed her second podium finish on beam with a third-place score. BYU's Elease Rollins won the event with a 9.950.
  • Jenna Weitz was Towson's second scorer on beam, logging a fifth-place, 9.850. Lauren Bolen scored a 9.775 for 11th while Lauren Keener and Emerson Hurst tied for 12th at 9.725.
  • Amy Stewart was the top Tiger on floor, tying for fifth with four other gymnasts, scoring a 9.850. Hong was just behind Stewart as the former scored a 9.825, finishing tied for 10th. Weitz (9.775), Lauren Bolen (9.750) and Paige Casper (9.700) rounded out Towson's scoring on the floor.
  • Towson worked quickly through its vault rotation, led by the freshman, Davis, who scored a career-best 9.850 for the first podium finish of her Towson career. Davis was tied for first with two gymnasts from each of the other two programs. Her previous best on vault was a 9.825, upping her career-best by nearly a tenth of a point.
  • Bolen was a close second to Davis for the Tigers, scoring a 9.825 and finishing sixth outright. Another freshman, Elise Tisler, notched a 9.800, tying for seventh while Nikki Borkowski (9.775) and Camille Vitoff (9.750) accounted for Towson's final two scores.
  • It was a long wait between vault and bars for the Tigers. Keener was Towson's top scorer with a 9.825, tying for fourth overall. Grace Vaillancourt finished in a two-way tie for sixth place (9.800) with Hong in eighth at 9.775. Sarah Girot (9.675) and Steph Macasu finished with a 9.675 and a 9.650, respectively.
Behind the Numbers
  • Towson made its longest road trip of the year and went further west than Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the first time since the 2019 campaign.
  • The Tigers competed against Utah State and BYU for the first time in program history during the regular season.
  • Towson posted a 49.000 on vault, the Tigers' 15th score of 49.000 or better this year and just one shy of the program record (16).
