Benzing Improves B Cut Time at Last Chance Meet

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – With one final chance to improve on times before the postseason, two Towson University men's swimmers competed Sunday at the WVU Last Chance Meet, hosted by West Virginia University at The Aquatic Center at Mylan Park.

Sophomore Brian Benzing improved on his NCAA B Cut Time, winning both the preliminary heat and the finals meet on Sunday. Benzing dropped his cut time by nearly a quarter of a second, securing a time of 52.13 seconds in the preliminary swims. Benzing continued his unbeaten run in the 100 breaststroke, including a win at last week's CAA Championships to defend his title, with a 52.25 time in the finals to win by well over a tenth of a second.

It was a lonely swim for junior Michael Fazio, who was the only competitor at the WVU Last Chance Meet in the men's 50-yard freestyle. Fazio, who won the 50-freestyle at the CAA Championships, finished the prelims in 20.26 followed by a 20.17 in the finals.

There is the potential for an additional last-chance meet next weekend before the NCAA Selection to the national meet. Please check TowsonTigers.com for more information as it becomes available.
