Men’s Golf Heads to Frederick County for CarpetBagger Invitational

URBANA, Md. – The Towson University men's golf team continues a busy week as the Tigers stay local for their second event of the week, the CarpetBagger Classic, hosted by Binghamton University. Towson will compete at the two-day event Saturday and Sunday, March 19-20.

The Tigers and the field will play 18 holes on Saturday, followed by another 18 holes on Sunday. There will be a shotgun start on both days.

When We Saw Them Last…
- Last weekend, the Tigers bounced back from a slow start after two rounds, sitting ninth at the Southern Invitational. Towson finished sixth out of 11 teams, jumping three spots on the final day of action at The Falls Club in Lake Worth, Florida.
- The Tigers were paced by Brad Freyberger, who finished ninth overall. The freshman carded an even-par 72 on Tuesday to finish with a 214.
Julian Gonzalez finished second for the Tigers and tied for 32nd overall, scoring a -2 for the third round. Gonzalez finished with a 223 (76-77-70) thanks to the big improvement in round three. 
- Jeremy Summerson notched three birdies on his back nine, but they were coupled with three bogies and a triple. He finished 226 (81-71-74), tying for 35th overall.
Justin Griffith had a bounce-back day as well, finishing at even par on Tuesday. Also starting on the 10th hole, Griffith posted two birdies on his front nine, both on Par 4 hole.

Up Next for Towson
  • The Tigers round out a busy March with the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate on Monday March 28 and Tuesday March 29 at the Golden Horseshoe - Gold Course in Williamsburg, Virginia.
  • That event will be the Tigers' third event of the month as Towson opened the spring season at the Ross Collegiate Classic in North Carolina and the Southern Invitational in Florida.
  • From there, the Tigers have just one more event during the regular season, the Abarta Collegiate Invitational on April 10 and April 11 at The Steele Club in Hellertown, Pennsylvania.
