First Rotation
It's NCAA Regionals but with a twist as the No. 33 Tigers square off in Round One with No. 35 University of North Carolina. It's winner take all as the winning team advances to Round Two to meet with No. 3 Michigan, No. 14 UCLA and No. 20 Maryland Thursday night in the second session of the Raleigh Regional.
In The Road to Nationals Rankings
Towson is one of three EAGL teams inside the Road to Nationals NQS Top 36 for regional qualifiers, checking in at No. 33 with an NQS of 196.265. Wednesday's foe, North Carolina, is ranked 35th at 196.225.
The Regionals Again Tigers
After finishing second at EAGL Championships, tying the program's best finish at that league event, the Tigers are off to NCAA Regionals for a second-straight season as the 33rd-ranked team.
Towson's vault squad is ranked 32nd nationally, paced by a 9.804 average from Lauren Bolen. Camille Vitoff (9.796) is second while freshman Elise Tisler (9.797) is third.
The Tigers' bars group is ranked 36th behind a tight grouping of Steph Macasu (9.795), Lauren Keener (9.788), Clara Hong (9.785) and Sarah Girot (9.769).
Towson's top rotation is on the beam, where the team is ranked 21st in the country. Two freshmen, Hong (9.829) and Macasu (9.825) lead the way with senior Emerson Hurst (9.796) just under the 9.800 benchmark.
Amy Stewart leads Towson's 41st ranked floor group with a 9.838 average while Hong is close behind at 9.804. Grace Vaillancourt (9.760) and Bolen (9.758) are at 9.750 or better this season.
Making More History at EAGL Championships
The Tigers continued making history at the EAGL Championships, scoring a 196.075 to surpass the 196.000 mark for the first time ever at the EAGL Championship Meet.
The Tigers' finished second overall in the eight-team field, trailing George Washington's 196.325. The runner-up finish tied the program record for best finish at the EAGL Championship event; Towson previous finished second at the first-ever EAGL Championship meet in 1996.

It's a Rematch
- Towson and UNC will dual for a second time this season at Round One of the NCAA Regional Meet, hosted at N.C. State's Reynolds Coliseum.
- The Tar Heels, then ranked 25th in scoring average, nipped Towson 196.000-195.975 in Chapel Hill.
- This is the Tigers' sixth rematch of the season: vs. Pittsburgh: 2-0, vs. West Virginia: 1-1, vs. William & Mary: 2-0, vs. George Washington: 2-0, vs. Utah State: 0-2.
The Research Triangle (Again)
- Qualifying for Regionals for a second-straight season sends the Tigers to The Research Triangle of North Carolina for a third time this season.
- Towson will compete at Reynolds Coliseum for a second time this season after falling in a dual meet with host N.C. State (L, 195.600-194.975)
- Towson made its first trip to The Triangle on January 22, followed be a return the next weekend for an EAGLÂ tri-meet in Chapel Hill.
- The Tigers fell by the narrowest of margins, 196.000-195.975 against the host Tar Heels on January 29 but topped fellow visitor Pittsburgh (W, 195.975-194.300).
EAGL Head Coach of the Year (Again)
- Towson University head gymnastics coach Jay Ramirez was named EAGL Head Coach of the Year, as voted by the League's head coaches.
- EAGL made its announcement Saturday night during the awards ceremony of the 2022 EAGL Championships.
- This is the second-straight year Ramirez has been named EAGL Coach of the Year after he was selected last season as well.
- This season, Ramirez and assistant coach Ashley Sauer, alongside volunteer assistant coach Kristen Presutti Callihan, saw 10 gymnasts earn a dozen All-EAGL honors, the most among the League's eight programs.
Now in his third season at the helm, Ramirez coached the Tigers to scores of 196.000 or higher in seven of the 13 meets, shattering the previous program best of two.
- Eight of the program's highest 15 scores have come during the 2022 campaign, while the Tigers also scored 24 event scores of 49.000 or higher, including three meets with four scores of 49.000 or better.
- Twice this season the Tigers scored a 49.250 on vault, setting a new program record for the event.
- Five of the program's six best vault scores came during the 2022 season, including a 49.100 three times this year.
- Towson also set a new program record on beam, hitting a 49.400 in a home tri-meet on February 2.
Last Time at NCAA Regionals
- For the first time in two decades, the Tigers qualified for the NCAA Regional meet as the 2021 edition of the program competed in the Morgantown Regional last spring.
- Towson scored a 195.025, finishing seventh in the stacked region that featured eventual national champion Michigan.
- Lauren Bolen tied for 18th in the vault competition, scoring a 9.825.
- Emerson Hurst was tied for ninth in the beam competition, hitting a 9.850.
- Bolen was 11th in the all-around competition with an even 39.000 while Camille Vitoff was 12th in the all-around standings with a 38.900.
Momma I'm Coming Hoooooome
- Freshman Lauren Keener hails from Apex, North Carolina, roughly a dozen miles from Reynolds Coliseum for Saturday's meet and a 20 minute drive from Chapel Hill.
- The next two week's will be Keener's first return to North Carolina for a collegiate meet.
- Keener won't be the only Apex competitor at Reynolds Coliseum this weekend; N.C. State freshman Macy Jennings is also from Apex, North Carolina. The two went to different high schools, however: Keener at Crossroads FLEX High School in Cary and Jennings at Apex Friendship School.
- Cassidy Stuart is another North Carolinian, calling Marvin her hometown.
- Stuart's hometown is just shy of three hours southwest of Raleigh/Chapel Hill, located along the South Carolina stateline south of Charlotte and east of Rock Hill, South Carolina.
- Expect a large amount of Black and Gold in the Triangle this week.
Home is Where the Dubs Are
- SECU Arena has been home to a lot of wins during the 2021-22 calendar year.
- The Tiger gymnastics team is currently 12-2 at SECU Arena this season, going 2-1 in head-to-head matchups last Friday, topping George Washington and Southern Connecticut, but falling to No. 28 Maryland.
- Towson volleyball went 17-1 at SECU Arena in the fall while men's basketball went 12-2 and women's basketball finished 12-3.
- Even the Baltimore Blast (MASL indoor soccer) are 7-2 at SECU Arena this season as of March 9.
- Combined, Towson's teams are 53-8 at SECU Arena this academic year.
- Women's basketball hosts Old Dominion Friday night for the WNIT at SECU Arena for potentially the last home event at the 10-year old building this academic year.
ALL The 196.000s
- This season, the Tigers scored a program-best 196.000 or better in seven of the 13 meets.
- Last season, the Tigers scored 196.000 or better twice, once at home against GW and once on the road against LIU and UNH.
- Prior to the 2021 campaign, Towson had not scored a single 196.000 since March 18, 2018 during a five-team meet at home.
Moving the Base to 49.000
- This season, Towson scored a 49.000 or better across all four events a whopping 27 times through March 19.
- During three meets this season, the Tigers racked 49.000s in all four rotations.

- Since that season, the furthest west Towson has been was a 2015 meet at Texas Woman's College, located in Denton, Texas.
- Towson had not been west of Pittsburgh since the 2019 season when the Tigers made the trek to Kalamazoo, Michigan.

- Towson has been nearly untouchable at home this season, sporting a 12-2 record at SECU Arena.

- The 12 wins at home this season are a program-best under head coach Jay Ramirez, besting the previous mark of 5-1 in his rookie season at the helm in 2020.
- The last time the Tigers won at least 10 meets at home was during the 2018 season as the Tigers went 11-7 at SECU Arena.
