Program Regional Record Comes Up Short Against UNC

RALEIGH, N.C. – In the final dual meet of the 2022 season, the Towson University women's gymnastics team fell in Round One of the 2022 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Regionals. The Tigers dropped a 195.725-195.250 decision against league foe North Carolina at Reynolds Coliseum.

The season is not complete for the Tigers, as junior Jenna Weitz will compete Thursday at 7 p.m. as an individual on beam. She will be in the third rotation and will move with UCLA.

Towson's score of 195.250 was a program record during the Division I era, besting the previous mark of 195.025, set last season in the Tigers' first Regional Berth in two decades.

The Tigers (15-8) led through the first two rotations, but a 48.275 on beam was the difference on Wednesday. The Tigers clawed back in the fourth rotation, hitting a 49.125 on floor, but ultimately came up short.

How it Happened

  • Hong led the Tiger beam team, scoring a 9.850, followed closely by Vaillancourt's 9.825. Vaillancourt was pressed into beam duty after a fellow Tiger sustained a lower body injury during warmups. Weitz scored a 9.775 for the Tigers as the third-place scorer.
  • After the beam, Towson responded with a 49.125, led by two 9.850s from Amy Stewart and Jenna Weitz. Vaillancourt logged a 9.825 while Bolen and senior Nikki Borkowski scored 9.800s.
