Men’s Golf Opens Spring Season at Donald Ross Collegiate Classic

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. – The Towson University men's golf team opens the spring portion of its 2021-22 schedule this weekend, kicking off with the Ross Collegiate Classic on Monday and Tuesday March 7-8, hosted by George Mason University.

Action is set for tee times between 8 a.m. and 9:57 a.m. on holes 1 and 10. With fair weather in the area on Monday, players will likely complete 36 holes on Monday with another 18 holes on Tuesday.

When We Saw Them Last…
The last outing for the Tigers was a highly successful one as Towson closed out the fall portion of the schedule with its first team tournament win since the 2015 season. The Tigers stormed back in the third and fourth rounds of the Towson Fall Invitational at Prospect Bay Country Club in late October.

The Invitational win was the first under fifth-year head coach Mike Larkin, who saw his team fire a 287 in the third round for a 54 hole total 868. The Tigers edged Howard University by one stroke as the Bison shot a 288 in the final round for an 869 total. Defending champion Robert Morris finished third at 873, fading in the final round with a 299.

Jeremy Summerson finished third overall with a 214, dropping a 64 (-8) in the second round.

  • It's a fast and furious month of March for the Tigers as Towson is set to play four tournaments this month.
  • After the Donald Ross Collegiate, the Tigers head further south to the Southern Invitational, hosted by Loyola University Maryland at The Falls Club of the Palm Beaches on Monday, March 14 and Tuesday, March 15.
  • Towson plays close to home on March 19-20 at the Carpet Bagger Classic at Worthington Manor Golf Club in Urbana, Maryland, an event hosted by Binghamton University.
