RICHMOND, Va. – Shannon Sullivan of the Towson University women's lacrosse team earned her second consecutive Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week award. The CAA made the announcement Monday afternoon.
This is the second CAA Rookie of the Week award in a row for Sullivan and the fourth overall for the Tigers this slate. Blair Pearre earned Player of the Week honors on March 7 before Kerri Thornton earned the same honor the following week and Halley Koras earned Rookie of the Week (March 14).
Completing the weekly awards, Kacey Knobloch of James Madison was named CAA Player of the Week and Hofstra's Shannon Boyle was selected as CAA Defensive Player of the Week.
The Tigers went 1-1 this week, falling to then-No. 22 Johns Hopkins (April 6) in overtime, 11-10, but then rallying to defeat (RV) Drexel (April 9) in extra time, 16-15.
Sullivan started off the week strong, tying her career-high with four ground balls against the Blue Jays. She also added two caused turnovers in the outing. She continued to find success against the Dragons, securing a career best six draw controls while picking up another ground ball.
The Wantagh, New York native leads the Tigers' clearing unit which stayed perfect between the two games, going 17-17 against Hopkins and 19-19 versus Drexel. The team is now 193-215 (89.8%) on the season.
The Black & Gold will continue CAA play as they travel to Long Island to face Hofstra on Saturday, April 16 at 12 p.m.
