Towson Softball Takes on George Mason for Wednesday Single Game

The Game: Towson (12-22, 2-7 CAA) vs. George Mason (15-18, 5-7 A10)
When: Wednesday, April 13 – 2 p.m.

TOWSON, Md. – Days after a big CAA win, the Towson University softball team will briefly leave league play for a mid-week affair against George Mason on Wednesday, April 13 at 2 p.m.
 
Originally scheduled for a doubleheader, this will be a single game.  First pitch remains at 2 p.m.
 
This will be Towson's lone non-conference game of the week before hosting Delaware this weekend for CAA competition.  All games at the Tiger Softball Stadium are free to attend for the public.  See the attached parking flyer for information on coming to campus for Wednesday's game.

Towson won the finale of its CAA weekend vs. UNCW 6-0 on Sunday to stand at 12-22 overall and 2-7 in the CAA.  George Mason took the finale against UMass 2-1 on Monday to enter at 15-18 overall and 5-7 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
 
This is the first of the final two home Wednesdays for Towson softball the rest of the season.
 
JUDICIOUS JJ
 
Julia Jackson has been the workhorse of the Towson pitching staff, throwing 114.1 innings on the mound for the Tigers.  The senior out of Simi Valley, California is 9-9 with a 4.29 ERA, pitching 12 complete games and throwing 67 strikeouts on the year.
 
The CAA Pitcher of the Week on March 15, Jackson earned a complete game shutout vs. UNCW on April 10, the team's first shutout of the season.  It was also Jackson's first pitched shutout of her Towson career.
 
POULICH SELECTED AS CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
 
Hitting .400 in a 3-1 week for Towson, Chloe Poulich was selected as the CAA Player of the Week on March 21.  She is the first Towson player to earn CAA Player of the Week since April 2018.
 
The senior had a pair of multi-hit games during the week, going 3-for-4 with an RBI double vs. Villanova and 2-for-4 with an RBI vs. Quinnipiac, also hitting a home run against Lafayette. 
 
COSTELLO EARNS 750TH CAREER VICTORY
 
Towson head coach Lisa Costello earned her 750th career victory on March 16 at Villanova.
 
Currently in her 27th season with the Tigers, Costello, who has been the head coach since the 1995-96 season, has been at the helm of 18 winning seasons for Towson, including nine years with at least 34 victories.  In 2018, Towson earned a berth into the National Invitational Softball Championship with a program record 42 wins.
 
Through April 10, Costello has 755 career victories as Towson's head coach.
 
BATTLING BRIANA
 
Towson's mainstay in the second spot of the lineup, Briana Ramirez stands fourth in the CAA with a .377 batting average.
 
Ramirez has hit safely in 27 of 34 games played and is riding a nine-game hitting streak.
 
THE LAKE EFFECT
 
Mackenzie Lake returns as Towson's starting shortstop after being a member of the CAA All-Rookie Team in 2021.
 
Lake thus far is avoiding the sophomore slump, hitting .311 with three home runs and 18 RBI, plus has 11 free passes to just seven strikeouts.  So far in her two seasons with Towson, Lake has a career batting average of .345.
 
FEAR THE FRESHMAN
 
Sydni Byers is off to a strong start in her freshman campaign, hitting .266 with two home runs and 19 RBI, leading the team in the latter category.  The New Bern native also has seven multi-hit games, hitting 2-for-3 vs. Georgetown on Wednesday.
 
HOME SWEET HOME
 
The Tiger Softball Stadium has been a good home for Towson thus far in 2022 as the Tigers stand 7-5 through at their friendly confines.
 
In addition, including two games at neighboring UMBC, Towson is 9-5 in games played in Baltimore County this season.
 
NEWCOMERS
 
Towson added nine new members to the roster including seven true freshmen as well as two transfers from the University of Hartford. These nine join 18 returners, including All-CAA Rookie Team member Mackenzie Lake, and All-CAA Second Team selection Chloe Poulich.

REPPING THE HOME STATE

Five members of the Black and Gold hail from the Old-Line State of Maryland. These players come from the Baltimore-Metro Area, the Washington D.C. Metro Area, and the Eastern Shore.
