TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team will have a challenge on its hands for this weekend, hosting Delaware, the first-place team in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), for a three-game series.
Towson and Delaware will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 16
th at noon and a single game on Sunday, April 17
th at 1 p.m.

Towson is coming off a mid-week defeat to George Mason 6-4 on Wednesday to stand at 11-23 overall and 2-7 in the CAA. Delaware swept Drexel this past weekend at home to be 24-11 overall and 7-2 in the CAA.
This is the second of three consecutive home weekends for Towson. The Tigers will host Elon next weekend at the Tiger Softball Stadium.

JUDICIOUS JJ
Julia Jackson has been the workhorse of the Towson pitching staff, throwing 114.1 innings on the mound for the Tigers. The senior out of Simi Valley, California is 9-9 with a 4.29 ERA, pitching 12 complete games and throwing 67 strikeouts on the year.
The CAA Pitcher of the Week on March 15, Jackson earned a complete game shutout vs. UNCW on April 10, the team's first shutout of the season. It was also Jackson's first pitched shutout of her Towson career.
POULICH SELECTED AS CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Hitting .400 in a 3-1 week for Towson,
Chloe Poulich was selected as the CAA Player of the Week on March 21. She is the first Towson player to earn CAA Player of the Week since April 2018.
The senior had a pair of multi-hit games during the week, going 3-for-4 with an RBI double vs. Villanova and 2-for-4 with an RBI vs. Quinnipiac, also hitting a home run against Lafayette.
COSTELLO EARNS 750TH CAREER VICTORY
Towson head coach
Lisa Costello earned her 750
th career victory on March 16 at Villanova.
Currently in her 27
th season with the Tigers, Costello, who has been the head coach since the 1995-96 season, has been at the helm of 18 winning seasons for Towson, including nine years with at least 34 victories. In 2018, Towson earned a berth into the National Invitational Softball Championship with a program record 42 wins.
Through April 14, Costello has 755 career victories as Towson's head coach.
BATTLING BRIANA
Towson's mainstay in the second spot of the lineup,
Briana Ramirez stands third in the CAA with a .385 batting average. She has notched 42 hits off 109 at-bats.
Ramirez has hit safely in 28 of 35 games played and is riding a 10-game hitting streak.
THE LAKE EFFECT
Mackenzie Lake returns as Towson's starting shortstop after being a member of the CAA All-Rookie Team in 2021.
Lake thus far is avoiding the sophomore slump, hitting .308 with three home runs and 18 RBI, plus has 11 free passes to just seven strikeouts. So far in her two seasons with Towson, Lake has a career batting average of .343.
FEAR THE FRESHMAN
Sydni Byers is off to a strong start in her freshman campaign, hitting .260 with two home runs and 19 RBI, leading the team in the latter category. The New Bern native also has seven multi-hit games, hitting 2-for-3 vs. Georgetown on Wednesday, April 6.
NEWCOMERS
Towson added nine new members to the roster including seven true freshmen as well as two transfers from the University of Hartford. These nine join 18 returners, including All-CAA Rookie Team member
Mackenzie Lake, and All-CAA Second Team selection
Chloe Poulich.
