TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's tennis team won for the sixth time in the last eight matches, beating Bucknell 4-0 Sunday afternoon at the Towson Tennis Complex.
The Tigers earned the doubles point winning two of the three sets. After the teams split at No. 2 and No. 3,
Themis Haliou and
Lea Kosanovic rallied from down 5-1 to win six straight games. The 7-5 victory at No. 1 gave the home team a 1-0 lead.
Bucknell forfeited at No. 6 singles, giving Towson a 2-0 advantage. Towson used the doubles momentum and each of the other five singles players won their opening sets. Haliou made it 3-0 with a commanding 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1. The race was on the clinch.
Sarah Pospischill was the first to finish, winning at No. 4.
"Solid performance today and a great comeback win for the doubles point by Themis and Lea to give us lots of momentum and energy starting the singles," head coach
Jamie Peterson said. "The girls took it from there and played solid tennis to clinch victory."
