TOWSON, Md. — The Towson University women's track and field team will split time this weekend between the Virginia Challenge (April 22-23) and Hopkins/Loyola Invitational (April 23).
Action at the Virginia Classic will begin on Friday with the women's javelin at 9 a.m. while things will get underway at the Johns Hopkins/Loyola Track & Field Complex will start in the morning on Saturday.
Last Time Out
Ani Boghossian-James ended the heptathlon in seventh place. Nicole Bezborodko took 18th in the unseeded section of the 5000 meters with a time of 18:56.88.
In the long jump, Denée Hibert came in 11th with a jump of 5.51 meters.
Kayla Thorpe took fourth in the javelin with a mark of 46.46 meters. Fatimah Owens earned silver in the discus with a throw of 47.54 meters. Georgia Coleman came up big in the hammer throw, earning 6th with a throw of 56.41. Owens took 22nd in the hammer throw, 44.84 meters.
Fresh Faces
The Tigers welcomed 10 freshmen to the team in Cristal Cuervo, Deneé Hibbert, Sara Kindbom, Mia Martinez, Alexis Mogensen and Aubrey Schaffer.
Transferring In
Transfers Najae Nickerson (Mount St. Mary's), Taylor Robinson (Marshall), Chalys Caruth (Mount St. Mary's), Amanda Tony (Alvernia) and Emmeline Klefaas (North Greenville) also all joined the Tiger family for the upcoming slate.
Looking Ahead
The Tigers will compete in one last meet in the Penn Relays from April 28-29 before the Colonial Athletic Association Championships from May 6-7.
Tigers in the Community
For the 7th consecutive year, the department exceeded 10,000 hours of community service to the Greater Baltimore region, finishing with 11,162 hours of community service in the 2018-19 academic season. Towson ranked #1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition. Towson had a 97% participation rate, attended 118 community service opportunities and volunteered with 19 organizations. The Tigers won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.
