CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Towson University softball team has an important Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) series coming up on the road, taking on Charleston for a three-game set.
 
Towson and Elon will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 30^th at 1 p.m. followed by a single game on Sunday, May 1^st at 1 p.m.

Towson won the series finale against Elon 4-1 on Sunday to stand at 14-28 overall and 4-11 in the Colonial Athletic Association.  Charleston played a mid-week doubleheader vs. Winthrop on Tuesday, splitting the games to be at 11-35 overall and 4-11 in the CAA.
 
JUDICIOUS JJ
 
Julia Jackson has been the workhorse of the Towson pitching staff, throwing 141.1 innings on the mound for the Tigers.  The senior out of Simi Valley, California is 11-12 with a 4.16 ERA, pitching 15 complete games and throwing 77 strikeouts on the year.  She currently leads the CAA in innings thrown and complete games.
 
The CAA Pitcher of the Week on March 15, Jackson earned a complete game shutout vs. UNCW on April 10, the team's first shutout of the season.  It was also Jackson's first pitched shutout of her Towson career.
 
POULICH SELECTED AS CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
 
Hitting .400 in a 3-1 week for Towson, Chloe Poulich was selected as the CAA Player of the Week on March 21.  She is the first Towson player to earn CAA Player of the Week since April 2018.
 
The senior had a pair of multi-hit games during the week, going 3-for-4 with an RBI double vs. Villanova and 2-for-4 with an RBI vs. Quinnipiac, also hitting a home run against Lafayette. 
 
COSTELLO EARNS 750^TH CAREER VICTORY
 
Towson head coach Lisa Costello earned her 750^th career victory on March 16 at Villanova.
 
Currently in her 27^th season with the Tigers, Costello, who has been the head coach since the 1995-96 season, has been at the helm of 18 winning seasons for Towson, including nine years with at least 34 victories.  In 2018, Towson earned a berth into the National Invitational Softball Championship with a program record 42 wins.
 
Through April 24, Costello has 757 career victories as Towson's head coach.
 
BATTLING BRIANA
 
Towson's mainstay in the second spot of the lineup, Briana Ramirez stands third in the CAA with a .385 batting average.  She has notched 50 hits, tied for fourth in the CAA, off 130 at-bats.
 
Ramirez has hit safely in 33 of 40 games played and has hit safely in 15 of her last 17 games.  She has a career batting average of .331 at Towson.
 
THE LAKE EFFECT
 
Mackenzie Lake returns as Towson's starting shortstop after being a member of the CAA All-Rookie Team in 2021.
 
Lake thus far is avoiding the sophomore slump, hitting .300 with five home runs and 21 RBI, plus has 11 free passes to just eight strikeouts.  So far in her two seasons with Towson, Lake has a career batting average of .342.
 
FEAR THE FRESHMAN
 
Sydni Byers is off to a strong start in her freshman campaign as the starting left fielder, hitting .270 with four home runs and 25 RBI, leading the team in the latter category. 
 
The New Bern, North Carolina native also has eight multi-hit games, hitting a combined 4-for-6 in three games vs. Delaware from Apr. 16-17.
 
NEWCOMERS
 
Towson added nine new members to the roster including seven true freshmen as well as two transfers from the University of Hartford. These nine join 18 returners, including All-CAA Rookie Team member Mackenzie Lake, and All-CAA Second Team selection Chloe Poulich.

REPPING THE HOME STATE

Five members of the Black and Gold hail from the Old-Line State of Maryland. These players come from the Baltimore-Metro Area, the Washington D.C. Metro Area, and the Eastern Shore.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

As a team, Charleston ranks fourth in the CAA with a 3.33 ERA, led by junior starter Carli McCants at 4-9 overall with a 2.53 ERA, striking out 89 batters in 102.1 innings.  The team's top batter is senior catcher Jenna Helberg, who hits .322 with five home runs, 11 doubles and 21 RBI.
