Zizakovic Earns Second Women's Lacrosse CAA Rookie of the Week Selection

TOWSON, Md. – After helping the Towson University women's lacrosse team to a pair of wins to close out the 2022 regular season, Milana Zizakovic has been selected as the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week. The CAA made the announcement Monday afternoon.

This is the second CAA Rookie of the Week award for Zizakovic, as she picked up her first selection on April 18. The Tigers have now earned seven overall weekly conference awards, including five Rookie of the Week picks, to mark the most for the team since winning 14 weekly awards in 2016 campaign. Sullivan earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks (April 4 & 11) as well as Halley Koras (March 14). Blair Pearre (March 7) and Kerri Thornton (March 14) also picked up CAA Player of the Week awards earlier this season.

Towson finished out the regular season this past week with convincing wins over William & Mary (12-5) and Delaware (17-10).

Zizakovic tallied a goal and an assist in each of the contests to end the week with four total points. Against the Blue Hens, she contributed two ground balls, one caused turnover and four draw controls while also adding two draws against the Tribe.

The Alberta, Canada product is the only freshman to start every game of the regular season. She ranks top-5 in three categories through 15 games: goals (18 – 5th), assists (7 – tied for 2nd) and draw controls (47 – 2nd). Zizakovic has found the back of the net in the last six outings and has earned two or more points in the last four.

Taylor Mennella of Drexel (CAA Player of the Week) and Drexel's Belle McHugh (CAA Defensive Player of the Week) rounded out the weekly conference awards.

With Saturday's win over Delaware, Towson clinched the No. 1 seed in the 2022 Women's Lacrosse CAA Tournament and will meet the Blue Hens in the semifinals on Friday, May 6 at 4 p.m. The tournament will be hosted by Drexel at Vidas Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The championship game will follow on Sunday, May 8 at 12 p.m.
