BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Hayley Horvath and Kayla Thorpe of the Towson University women's track and field team will travel to Bloomington, Indiana to compete in the NCAA East Preliminary Round on Thursday, May 26.
Horvath will make her second consecutive trip to the preliminary round in pole vault as last year she placed forth last season with a height of 4.27 meters to earn a spot in the NCAA Track & Field Championships. This will be Thorpe's first time qualifying for the meet, competing in javelin.
Last Time Out
- Thorpe placed first in javelin at the ECAC Outdoor Championship with a season best throw of 49.77 meters. The mark broke the program record which was set in 2008 by Kelly Robinson (48.58 meters). The throw currently ranks 24th in the east region.
- Horvath earned gold in the pole vault for the second year in a row and set the ECAC Outdoor meet record with a season-high height of 4.18 meters to stand 23rd in the east region.
Looking Ahead
The top-12 scores from each event will continue onto the 2022 NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships. The meet will take place in Eugene, Oregon from June 8-11.
Tigers in the Community
For the 7th consecutive year, the department exceeded 10,000 hours of community service to the Greater Baltimore region, finishing with 11,162 hours of community service in the 2018-19 academic season. Towson ranked #1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition. Towson had a 97% participation rate, attended 118 community service opportunities and volunteered with 19 organizations. The Tigers won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.
