Camper Named 2022 CAA Leadership and Sport Excellence Award Winner for Baseball

RICHMOND, Va. – Towson University catcher Burke Camper has been honored as the 2022 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Leadership and Sport Excellence Award winner for baseball, announced by the league on Tuesday.

Camper is the first-ever Towson baseball honoree of the CAA Leadership and Sport Excellence Award.

The CAA Leadership and Sport Excellence Awards honors those who represents the highest standards of teamwork, integrity, leadership and sportsmanship in his or her academic and athletic achievements.  One student-athlete for each of the 19 CAA sports are voted on by the league's faculty athletic representatives.

On the field, Camper was one of Towson's biggest power threats with 10 home runs, tied for the most by a Tiger in a single season since 2014.  As Towson's primary catcher, Camper hit .257 with a .500 slugging percentage, driving in 28 runs.  The 2021 Buster Posey Watch List honoree was a Collegiate Baseball News National Player of the Week in March after hitting a combined five home runs in four games.

Camper served as the Towson SAAC vice president for governance & student-athlete services, was a LEaD Tiger and a member of the Own Your Roar executive board.  He was a mainstay in community service, volunteering for BUBA, the Matt Goleczeski Memorial Foundation, the TU Campus Clean Up and several other events to give back to the area.

In the classroom, Camper had a 3.89 GPA in exercise science, being a five-time member of the CAA Commissioner's Honor Roll, Towson Dean's List and Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
