Towson Softball Adds Three Transfer Pitchers for 2023 Campaign

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team is looking to restore the ranks on the pitching circle, adding three transfer pitchers for the upcoming 2023 season.

Returning just one player who pitched over six innings from 2022, the Tigers add three new pitchers who will help on the mound this year.

Towson welcomes in Erin Brown from St. John's, Maddie Gardner from USF and Makayla Veneziale from Lipscomb.  They will enroll into Towson in the fall in preparation for the spring.

Erin Brown – 5-8 Pitcher – Junior – Thousand Oaks, Calif. / St. John's University
Brown, who enters as a college graduate, has been one of St. John's key pitchers the past three years, throwing in 46 games with a 4.07 ERA, including two seasons with a 3.5 ERA or better, and striking out 98 batters.  Leading La Reina High to a 2018 league title, Brown was a three-time Tri-Valley Pitcher of the Year and four-time all-league first team honoree, finishing with a 0.93 ERA and 517 strikeouts in her high school career.

Maddie Gardner – 5-7 Pitcher – Junior – Sun Prairie, Wis. / University of South Florida
Gardner played the past two years at USF, playing in six games including a victory over Florida Atlantic in 2021.  A native of Wisconsin, the 2019-20 state Gatorade Player of the Year and 2019 WFSCA co-D1 Player of the Year led Sun Prairie High to a pair of state final appearances, including the championship in 2018.  She finished with 71 wins and 739 strikeouts in her high school career.
