NEWARK, Del. – The Towson University women's cross country team opened the 2022 season with a third place finish at the Delaware Opener 5K. The team finished with a total of 73 points and an average time of 20:35.
"It was a tough course for our season opener," Towson head coach Consandria Walker-Hall said. "But I am pleased with the women's efforts today."
Beighley Ayers was the top finisher for the Tigers in the 5k, coming in eighth place with a time of 19:06.30. Right behind Ayers was Aubrey Shaffer clocking a 19:30.1 which put her in 12
th place.
Alison Betler (20:46.4), Lexi Mogensen (21:02.1) and
Morgan Loewe (22:29.4) also scored for the Tigers.
Sophia Skinner and
Jenna Zentz also competed for Towson.
"I was happy with our effort today." Towson assistant coach Evan Freeman said. "It was a tough course, but I feel we handled the adversity well. Our team intangibles are there and we have a good starting point to build off of for the season ahead. I'm excited to see us grow with each meet from here."

The Tigers will take a week off from competition before heading down the road to Annapolis for the Navy Invitational where they will be competing in a 6K on Sept. 16.
