Towson, Md. – At a packed SECU during the second meet of the 2023 season the Towson University gymnastics team earned the highest opening score in program history of 195.075, placing second after falling to New Hampshire by .200.
West Virginia University placed third with a score of 194.800, followed by West Chester who concluded the meet at 192.475.
Towson picked up four top-five finishes, including a gold medal performance from
Isabella Minervini.
The Tigers earned scores of 48.625 on beam, 49.125 on bars, 48.600 on beam and 48.725 on floor.
How it Happened
- Camille Vitoff and Polina Belanovski lead for the Tigers after the first rotation of vault, both earning 9.750s and tying for fourth. Teammate Mia Davis tied for seventh after posting a 9.725.
- West Virginia took first place at the conclusion of the first rotation after tying it's season best score of 49.200 on floor.
- The Tigers bounced back strong after the second rotation, posting the highest team score of 49.125 on uneven bars. Rookie Isabella Minervini dominated on the event, tying for first place overall with a 9.875, only .25 off her career best. Lauren Keener and Grace Vaillancourt tied for sixth after posting 9.825s.
- New Hampshire secured the first-place spot at the conclusion of the third rotation after scoring a 48.850 on floor, lead by Kenadi Brown who placed second after posting 9.875.
- Grace Vaillancourt was the top finisher for the Tigers on beam, tying for sixth after posting a 9.775. Teammates Lauren Bolen, Lauren Keener and Sarah Girot all tied for 12th with 9.725s.
- The Tigers took on floor for the final rotation and rookie Carmella Calafati (9.875) earned the top score for Towson after tying for second. Calafati improved her score from last week's meet at Rutgers by .025. Grace Vaillancourt followed not too far behind, posting a 9.825 to tie for seventh in the event.
