TOWSON, Md. – Former Towson pitching coach Blake Nation is set to report to Minor League Spring Training with the Milwaukee Brewers Dominican Summer League (DSL) affiliate as the DSL Brewers Blue Development Coach.
"I'm grateful for the opportunity to have coached with Coach Tyner, Biagini and Benoit and to have coached great guys during my time here at Towson," said Nation. "This program has allowed me to learn and grow as a coach and a person, and I'm so thankful for the support and mentorship. These players and this program mean a lot to me, and while I'm excited about this next step, I wish nothing but continued success for these guys. They have put in a lot of hard work this past fall and are in good hands with coach Ruppenthal."
Nation has served as the Towson pitching coach since September of 2021. He joined the staff from Hofstra, where he served in the same role for three seasons. While there, he coached Jim Joyce, who was selected in the 16
th round of the 2021 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft by the Seattle Mariners after earning All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Second Team honors.
He formerly had stops at Florida SW State College and the University of Tampa, plus he was the head coach of the Vermont Mountaineers in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. A former 22nd round pick by the Mariners out of Georgia Southern, Nation, a 2012 graduate of GSU, pitched six years in the professional ranks, finishing with a 2.78 ERA and 21-6 record.
"Hiring Blake Nation was one of the easiest decisions we've made here as a team and staff. Every search committee member had Blake number one on their wish lists. He has made such a tremendous impact on our staff, our team and most importantly our pitchers. He will be sorely missed as he moves into his new career in professional baseball with the Milwaukee Brewers. We wish him nothing but success. However, keep in mind, once a Tiger, always a Tiger," head coach
Matt Tyner added.
