Virginia Beach, VA – The Towson University track and field team sits in eighth place after day one of the inaugural Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships in Virginia Beach. Today's performance was highlighted by multiple personal bests, finals qualifiers and a podium finish from
Fatimah Owens in the weight throw.
Northeastern took first place at the conclusion of day one after picking up gold medals in four events.
How it Happened – Track
- Aubrey Schaffer started off the track events with an 11 second PR in the 5000 meters, clocking a 18:24.45.
- Cristal Cuervo won her heat in the 400 meters, running a 56.33 to qualify for finals.
- Sydney Tucker dropped .09 from her previous best in the 60 meters dash, clocking a 7.59 to place sixth and qualify for finals.
- Cristal Cuervo (24.47) and Maya Tucker (24.55) ran in the same heat for the 200 meters, both clocking times fast enough to make it into finals. Tucker earned a PR in the event by .02.
How it Happened – Field
- Fatimah Owens made her way to the podium after throwing a PR of 18.61 meters in the weight throw to place third, picking up six points for the Tigers.
- Georgia Coleman scored two points for Towson in the weight throw after throwing a mark of 17.69 to place seventh.
- Manie Mevo was the top finisher for the Tigers in the long jump, finishing with a mark of 5.47m.
- Kiara Murray (5.39m), Denee Hibbert (5.24m) and Skylar Galiano-Holmes (5.19) competed in the event as well.
How it Happened – Pentathalon
- Leeann Redlo and Liana Wilkinson competed in the pentathlon which consisted of 60 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800 meters.
- For her first pent ever Redlo placed fourth overall after receiving a score of 3354, which places her at second all-time in Towson history. She earned a PR of 1.73 in the high jump.
- Wilkinson finished her pent with a score of 3094, good enough for fifth all-time in school history. The sophomore earned three PRs in the high jump (1.52m), shot put (8.46m) and long jump (4.72m).

- CAA Championships will wrap up tomorrow Feb 22. The meet will begin at 9 a.m. with the heptathlon. Tigers who qualified for finals in the 60-meter hurdles, 400 meters, 60-meter dash, and 200 meters will compete. The 4x800, 4x400, 3000 meters and field events will happen as well.
