Towson Women’s Basketball Draws Harvard in WNIT

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's basketball team will travel to Cambridge, Mass. to face Harvard on Thursday, March 16th at 7 p.m. for the first round of the Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT).

The Tigers received an automatic bid into the WNIT after earning the one seed in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament, recording a 21-11 overall record and a 13-5 CAA mark. This earned Towson a share of the regular season title for the first time in program history.

This is the Black & Gold's third-ever trip to the WNIT, also going in 2022 and 1969. Last year, the Tigers hosted Old Dominion at SECU Arena in the first round, where Towson fell 72-66 to ODU.

The bracket expanded back to 64 teams after the 2020 event was canceled because of COVID-19, and in 2021, the field was capped at 32 teams, with games played at four regional sites.

Harvard accumulated a 17-11 overall record and a 9-5 Ivy League mark. The Crimson lost in the Ivy League Championship to Princeton 54-48. Harvard reached the championship after winning its first Ivy Madness tournament game over Columbia 72-65 in overtime.

The winner of the Towson vs. Harvard will play the winner of UAlbany vs. UMass in the second round.
