Southport, NC – The Towson University women's golf team is officially over halfway done with the 2023 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship tournament as the Tigers wrapped up day two of play, falling to fifth place after shooting 308 (+20).
Defending champion College of Charleston extended its lead from UNCW by 12 strokes after shooting 292 (+4). The Cougar's Emma Schimpf moved to first place after shooting even par 72. Schimpf is the only player to be under par for the tournament.
Four Tigers sit in the top-25 individually with
Faith McIlvain, the top Towson performer of the day, sitting in eighth. Towson is one of two teams to have recorded an eagle throughout the 36 holes of play so far, notching one coming from senior
Madison Barber.
Faith McIlvain led Towson's day one efforts, shooting 74 (+2) to finish tied for eighth place, jumping up eight spots from yesterday's performance after a four stroke improvement. The senior offset two bogeys with three birdies during the front nine, two of which were back-to-back on holes 7 and 8.
Isabella Portokalis played fairly steady golf to conclude day two tied for 15
th. The Canada native was on par for 14 of the 18 holes, shooting 77 (+5).
Not too far behind was
Madison Barber, who tied for 18
th after shooting 77(+5) as well. The senior recorded a eagle on hole No. 12.
Odette Font Garcia made par on eight holes, adding a birdie on hole No. 18 to wrap up play for the day. The sophomore shot 80 (+8) to tie for 21
st.
Kyndall Campbell moved up four spots from yesterday to finish the day in 40
th place after shooting 87 (+15).
