Williamsburg, VA – The Towson University track and field team finished the 2023 Outdoor Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships strong, picking up five more All-CAA honors and a gold medal performance from freshman
Manie Mevo on the final day of competition. The Tigers placed seventh overall with a total of 70 points.
Elon University took the championship title for the third consecutive year with 185 points followed by runner up Hampton (124) and host William & Mary (90) in third.
How it Happened
- The 4x100 got the Tigers off to a hot start, placing third overall with a school record time of 45.48, earning Towson's first All-CAA honors of the day. The relay made up of Hannah Ty'Liyah, Cristal Cuervo, Sydney Tucker and Maya Tucker were also one of three teams to break the Walter J. Zable Stadium facility record, which was ultimately claimed by first place finisher Elon (44.91).
- Manie Mevo continued the heat for the Black & Gold, clinching the championship title in the triple jump with a huge PR of 12.35m. Mevo's mark ranks her second in Towson history, only .06m off of the school record. Skylar Galiano-Holmes scored in the event as well with a new PR of 11.78m to place eighth.
- Maya Tucker earned her second All-CAA honors of the day in the 100-meter dash finals with a time of 11.73 after a close race with Elon's Reese Webster (11.70) who took first. Ty'Liyah Hannah and Sydney Tucker picked up points for the Tigers in the event as well, placing sixth and seventh respectively.
- Cristal Cuervo took seventh place in the 400-meter finals after clocking a 55.42.
- Fatimah Owens placed sixth in the shot put with a toss of 14.36m while Georgia Coleman picked up a new PR of 13.21m.
- Maya Tucker (23.94) and Cristal Cuervo (23.96) took over the podium in the 200m dash, placing second and third respectively. The times rank third and fourth in Towson's all-time top-10 list.
- Leeann Redlo became the second freshman of the day to make her way onto the podium, placing second in the high jump with a mark of 1.68m which ties for eighth all-time in program history.
- The 4x400 closed out the meet with a season best time of 3:47.48. The relay consisting of Maya Tucker (56.92), Satori Valentine (56.98), Ty'Liyah Hannah (58.01) and Cristal Cuervo (55.53) ran the seventh fastest time in program history. The Tigers placed second in their heat, behind Delaware.
