Towson, Md. – Towson University outside hitter Irbe Lazda was selected as the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

Lazda led the Tigers in total blocks with 12, including a team-high three solo blocks last weekend. Towson split two matches against South Carolina, picking up a sweep last Friday to secure the Tigers' first victory over an SEC opponent in program history. The Marupe, Latvia native averaged a team-best 1.71 blocks per set. The redshirt junior added 12 digs, including a career-high nine digs in Saturday's match against the Gamecocks. Lazda led Towson with 27 kills posting ten in the first match and tying a career-best with 17 in Saturday's match on a .452 hitting percentage.

Towson will play Morgan State on Thursday, August 31st at 6 p.m., then return home to play FDU on Friday, September 1st at 7 p.m. at SECU Arena.
