TOWSON, Md. – Former Towson catcher
John Cristino has agreed to terms with the Kane County Cougars of the American Association of Professional Baseball (AAPB).
The AAPB is a Partner League of Major League Baseball (MLB), providing organized baseball to communities throughout the United States and Canada while working to expand the geographical reach of the game.
The New Jersey native served as Towson's primary catcher during the 2023 season. Cristino finished this year tied for the team lead with 14 home runs despite missing 23 games to injury. He slashed .309/.384/.699 with 26 runs scored, four doubles, a triple and 41 runs batted in.
Cristino debuted for the Cougars in last night's 5-3 win over the Cleburne Railroaders, going hitless in three at-bats. The AAPB's regular season runs through Monday, September 4. The playoffs will begin shortly after the conclusion of the regular season, with the top four teams from each division advancing to the playoffs.
Outfielder
James Moses has also found a home in professional baseball with the Utica Unicorns of the United Shore Professional Baseball League (USPBL). Moses has appeared in 20 games for the Unicorns this season, notching a .231 average with seven runs, two doubles and six runs batted in.
Cristino and Moses are the second and third players from the 2023 Towson baseball roster to join professional baseball organizations.
Ethan Pecko agreed to terms with the Houston Astros after being selected in round six of the MLB First-Year Player Draft in July.
