TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University football team has returned and is getting ready for the 2023 season, completing the first day of fall camp.
The Tigers finished the first day of fall camp with the first game of 2023 less than a month away. Towson worked out on the Lower Fields Complex, the site of a majority of fall practices this preseason.
"There is always a lot of anxiety and excitement that first day: what does it look like, how and what are we going to, all of those things," said head coach
Pete Shinnick, entering his first year at the helm of Towson. "For me, it is getting that situated and taken care of so that everyone settles in and doesn't try to do too much, but go full speed."
The players gathered up at 9 a.m. in great Towson weather, in the 70s with cloudy skies for a comfortable atmosphere. The team did various drills, 7-on-7 play and other individual workouts on the first day back.
"Lot of new guys, including freshmen and transfers added over the summer, we've done individual work but to see how a full structured practice works, this is the practice to learn how to practice," said Shinnick. "I want them leaving here desiring and being excited to come back tomorrow."
The Tigers were predicted to finish ninth in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) preseason coaches poll.
D'Ago Hunter earned STATS Perform Preseason All-America recognition while each
Jesus Gibbs and
Robert Javier were Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention.
The 2023 season begins on Sept. 2 as the Tigers play at Maryland.
