Crab Cakes and Gymnastics
Towson faces in-state foe University of Maryland for a Sunday afternoon dual meet in TU Arena at 1 p.m. This meet marks the Tigers' annual Pride Meet. The first 250 fans receive free pride themed t shirts.
WVU Quad Recap
The Tigers are coming off of a dominant win at West Virginia University on March 3, as they topped Pittsburgh (195.225), West Virginia (195.00) and Western Michigan (194.625) with a final score of 196.325.
Towson posted 49's on every event except bars where it logged a 48.850.
Isabella Minervini and
Grace Vaillancourt picked up gold medals for the Tigers on bars and beam respectively.
Haven't Missed a Beat
Elise Tisler's 2023 season was cut short after three meets due to injury, but the junior has bounced back stronger than ever in 2024 as she has posted career bests in both events she competes in. On vault she has reset her career high three times, with her current best of 9.975 being set on March 1. Tisler logged a 9.975 on floor as well on February 23. Both scores rank second in program history.
Polina Belanovski competed for the first time this season at the WVU quad meet on March 3, as she has been recovering from an injury since the start of the 2024 slate. The sophomore, who was a key component of the vault squad last season, scored a 9.875 on vault for her first time back in the lineup. Belanovski posted Towson's top score on the event at the meet, tying with Tisler.
It's a Weekly Thing
For the past five consecutive weeks, Towson has received at least one East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) weekly award. On March 6,
Elise Tisler was named EAGL Specialist of the Week for the third time this season.
This is Our House
The Tigers are currently undefeated at home this season, going 5-0 after defeating three teams in a quad meet on January 26 and two in a tri meet on February 23.
Scouting the Terrapins
The Terps were projected to finish seventh in the Big Ten preseason poll, announced by the league in December of 2023. Freshman Natalie Martin and graduate student Emma Silberman were named Gymnasts to Watch.
Maryland has posted four team scores in the 196 range and two in the 197s with its season high 197.300 coming from a quad meet on March 3. The Terps thrive on floor as they have hit the 49.000 or higher mark at all 10 meets this season, five of which have been 49.325 or better.
Natalie Martin holds the team's top vault and beam scores, posting 9.925 and 9.950 respectively. Alexa Rothenbuescher posted the Terps highest bars score of 9.925 while Maddie Komoroski has logged a 9.950 for the team's top floor mark.
Since 2013, the Terps lead the series record 14-1. Maryland leads the home (0-3), away (0-4) and neutral (7-1) records. Towson last faced Maryland on March 12, 2023, falling to the Terrapins 196.525 - 197.100.
