Nadelen Named Head Coach of U.S. Men’s U20 National Team

TOWSON, Md. – Towson University men's lacrosse head coach Shawn Nadelen has been selected as the head coach of the United States Men's U20 National Team, announced by USA Lacrosse on Monday.

Nadelen will prepare the U.S. U20 Team for the upcoming 2025 World Lacrosse Men's U20 Championship in South Korea.  Tryouts for the team will be from June 28-30, 2024 at the USA Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks.

"It's just a great honor and something I'm extremely excited about and humbled to be able to serve USA Lacrosse in this capacity," Nadelen said in the USA Lacrosse press release. "Being able to achieve the opportunity to represent your country as a player was something I was fortunate to have. There's no better honor and now as a coach to be able to do it is just surreal."

Nadelen now becomes a head coach for the U.S. National Team program.  He was part of the U.S. Senior National Team which won the gold medal in the 2010 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Lacrossse Championships in England with a 12-10 victory over Canada in the title game.

In 13 years as head coach at Towson, Nadelen, the 2017 USILA Coach of the Year, has led the Tigers to 110 victories, five CAA Tournament titles and the 2017 NCAA Championship Weekend.

Since the first championship in 1988, the U.S. U20 Team* has won all nine world titles, defeating Canada 12-10 in the gold medal game in the 2022 world championship in Ireland.  (Note: before 2022, the championship was U19.)

Nadelen becomes the second Towson men's lacrosse head coach to lead one of the U.S. National Teams.  Tony Seaman, Towson head coach from 1999 to 2011, was the head coach of the U.S. Men's Senior National Team for the 1994 World Lacrosse Championship.
