Towson Track & Field Picks Up One All-CAA Honor And Eight Finals Qualifiers On Day One Of Conference Championships

ELON, N.C. – The Towson track & field team had a strong showing on the first day of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Outdoor Championships, earning one All-CAA honor and eight spots in tomorrow's finals session. 
 
After six of the 21 events have been scored, the Tigers sit in 11th place with six points ahead of Monmouth and North Carolina A&T. Northeastern leads the field after accumulating 47 points followed by Elon with 41. William & Mary rounds out the top three with 36.5. 
 
Kira Parsons started the meet off strong for the Black & Gold, making her way onto the podium in the javelin after tossing 40.26m which is her second best mark this season. She placed third overall, wrapping up her collegiate career with All-CAA honors.
 
Cristal Cuervo was the top finisher for the Tigers in the 400m dash, running a PR of 55.66 to place second in her heat behind incoming graduate transfer Piper Jons from Elon. Cuervo secured a spot in tomorrow's finals after finishing in fifth overall.
 
Maya Tucker opened the 100m dash for the Tigers on a high note, winning her heat in a time of 11.44. The junior was one of three runners in the event to break the meet record which was ultimately claimed by Jaidyn Ramsey from Campbell who clocked a 11.39. Tucker sits in second going into finals tomorrow. Sydney Tucker qualified for finals as well, placing seventh after running a PR of 11.73. The senior placed second in her heat behind Maya. Additionally, Ty'Liyah Hannah picked up a new PR in the event after breaking 12 seconds for the first time in her collegiate career. The sophomore ran an 11.92 which ranks her eighth all-time in Towson's top-10 list.
 
Baara Stewart shaved nearly two seconds off of her previous PR in the 800m, clocking a 2:13.36 to make her way into finals after placing eighth overall. The freshman was one of two underclassmen in the event to make it back to tomorrow's heat. Her time now ranks her fifth in Towson program history. 
 
Spencer Settle dropped two seconds from her 400m hurdle time earned a week ago, clocking a season best 1:01.59 to finish third in her heat. The junior placed fifth overall, moving on to finals. 
 
Maya Tucker and Cristal Cuervo wrapped up the day for the Black & Gold, both qualifying for finals in the 200m dash. Tucker claimed another second place spot, running a season best 23.44 while Cuervo took fifth place after winning her heat in 23.62 seconds. 
 
The championship resumes tomorrow for final heats of today's events as well as the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. The meet begins for the Tigers at 10:00 a.m. with the women's shot put.
