Towson Men’s Basketball Lands IUPUI Transfer Abdou Samb

TOWSON, Md. – Former Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) forward Abdou Samb will join the Towson University men's basketball team for the 2024-25 season. The Upper Marlboro native spent last season with the Jaguars after transferring from Rhode Island.

Samb played in 30 games making 20 starts in his lone season with the Jaguars, scoring at 6.4 ppg clip with 3.3 rpg. He shot 62 percent from the field blocking 20 shots with 15 steals. Samb scored a season-best 14 points against Milwaukee on February 28, one of seven double-digit scoring performances.

Prior to IUPUI, the Upper Marlboro native spent a year at Rhode Island. While with the Rams he appeared in 31 games averaging 3.6 ppg and 2.7 rpg. He had a 14-point, seven-rebound game in just his second collegiate game against Texas State.

"Abdou is a great addition to our basketball program. Abdou is a gym rat who plays the game with a lot of energy and passion. He brings experience to our team having played under three great Head Coaches in David Cox and Archie Miller at Rhode Island and Matt Crenshaw at IUPUI. His ability to guard multiple positions on the defensive end of the floor will be a huge asset to our team. Offensively he is a great finisher around the rim and will help improve our team in this area. Our staff is extremely excited about our new addition to our program." Said head coach Pat Skerry.

Samb prepped at Fredrick Douglass High School where he earned Second Team All-State honors as a junior and played AAU ball with D.C. Premier.

Towson men's basketball finished the 2023-24 season at 20-14, 11-7 CAA, winning 20-plus games for a school record third straight season and reached the CAA Championship Semifinals for the third straight year. The Tigers will return 81 percent of the scoring and 80 percent of minutes played from this past season.
