TOWSON, Md. – The 2024 Towson University football team is getting ready for the 2024 campaign, wrapping up its first week of practice with its first reps on the Johnny Unitas® Stadium turf.
 
Primarily practicing on the Lower Fields Complex, Towson did live game drills for the first time today at Unitas, seeing the offense and defense in 11-on-11 game play.
 
"Things are progressing very well, we are starting to see guys separate themselves," said Towson head coach Pete Shinnick. "We are getting a lot of reps with ones, twos and threes; we are seeing guys rise up the depth chart and settle in.  I give our team a lot of credit, they have taken the challenges we have given them and handled very well."
 
Towson has one more practice before its first team scrimmage on Saturday morning towards the end of the practice, which will include officials.  This will take place three weeks before Towson's opener at Cincinnati on Saturday, Aug. 31.
 
"We are flying around at a faster pace than we ever had," said Shinnick. "We were trying to learn everything a year ago, but now we are practicing and challenging each other at a better pace."
 
Towson will continue to work on drills and instruction of plays as the preseason camp continues through the month of August.  From last season, Towson is replacing eight defensive starters and three offensive starters from a group which finished .500 or better in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play four of the last five years.
 
"I'm looking for execution and understanding of what we need to do," said Shinnick.  "We will have a lot of calls and a lot of different looks; it should look just like practice in that they are executing well."
