ROCKVILLE, MD. – The Towson University Men's Golf team begins its 2024 season at the USF Tournament on September 9-10 hosted by Howard University and the University of San Francisco. The event takes place at the Manor Country Club in Rockville, Md.
Tee Times and Format:
The event is a three-round tournament with two rounds being played on Monday and the third round being played on Tuesday. Tee times on Monday begin at 8:00 a.m., the starting tee times for Tuesday have not been decided.
The Field:
The other participating schools are Alabama State, Florida A&M, George Mason, Georgetown, George Washington, Loyola Maryland, Prairie View A&M, Princeton and Binghamton.
The Roster:
The Tigers roster consists of nine golfers with eight returners and only one newcomer. The newcomer is freshman
Adam Green from Freeland, Md. Who was a two-year captain of the Hereford High School golf team.
Leading off the returning players are juniors
Poon Nantsupawat and
Jai Sheth. Sheth competed in 19 rounds of play last season with a season best round of 67. Nantsupawat competed in 14 rounds of play with a season best round of 71.
The other six returners are sophomores
Sky Aung,
Ariihau Faana,
Joshua Galindo,
Matthew Gonnello, and
Michael Matheson, and redshirt freshman
Braden Anderson. Aung competed in 22 rounds of play with a team best season average of 73.77, Faana competed in 23 rounds of play last year with a season average of 74.22. Galindo competed in 15 rounds of play last season with an average score of 75.40, Matheson competed in 25 rounds of play with an average score of 74.76. Gonnello competed in five rounds last year with a season best round of 74.
Interim Director of Golf
Mike Larkin has entered Faana, Aung, Green, Matheson, and Nantsupawat to compete in this tournament, Gonnello will enter the tournament as an individual.
Last Season Recap:
The Tigers finished third in the Leigh University Invitational and the Southern Invitational, with four other top eight finishes throughout the season.
The team finished the season with a seventh-place finish in the Coastal Athletic Association Championships after rounds of 305-295-286.
Upcoming Schedule:
After this tournament, the Tigers have three more events throughout September and October.
The team will travel to Farmingdale and return to The Doc Gimmler for the seventh consecutive season on September 16-17.
Two weeks later, the Tigers will be in Farmington, PA competing in the Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational.
The Tigers' fall season concludes October 14-15 with the Georgetown Intercollegiate in Westfield, N.J.
