Jons Earns First Towson Track & Field Weekly Honors of the Season

TOWSON, Md. – Piper Jons has been named the Coastal Athletic Association Women's Track Athlete of the Week, this is Jon's first weekly honor of the season.
 
Jons ran in three events at the Dr. Sander Scorcher in New York, N.Y. over the weekend and placed nationally in all three. The grad student ran 53.70 in the 400m to set a Towson record and place 28th in the nation and broke another school record with a time of 23.60 in the 200m which placed 30th in the country. She closed out the weekend anchoring the 4x400 relay which ran the 74th best time nationally at 3:43.39 and was the second fastest time in Tiger history.
 
This weekend now gives Jons three Towson indoor records in only four meets as a Tiger as she also broke the school record on the 600m with a time of 1:32.17 at the SJU Youree-Spence Garcia Meet in December. Jons also holds the second fastest time in the 500m in Towson history at 1:14.73 and the ninth fastest time in the 60m with 7.68. Jons currently leads the CAA in the 200m, 400m, and 4x400m events. 

 
Piper Jons and the Tigers will be back this weekend at the Patriot Games hosted by George Mason on Friday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 1.
