BOX SCORE TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team hosted Holy Cross on Saturday in a doubleheader for the first weekend series at John B. Schuerholz Park.
 
The Tigers fell in game one, 5-1. Play in doubleheader game two was suspended following the tenth inning due to darkness and will now resume Monday, March 3, at noon.
 
Key Stats (Game 1)

• Towson starter Max Simpson (1-2) took the loss with one earned run allowed on three hits and one walk in 6.0 innings pitched. Simpson struck out five.
• Holy Cross starter Danny Macchiarola (1-2) earned the win with one earned run allowed on three hits and two walks in 6.2 innings pitched.  Macchiarola struck out ten. Reliever Pedro Leon (2) earned his second save of the season with 2.1 scoreless innings tossed, allowing two hits and two walks. Leon struck out three.

 
How it Happened (Game 1)

• Both starters were effective deep into their outings, keeping each opponent scoreless through the first five frames.
• After Holy Cross' leadoff batter CJ Egrie was hit by a pitch, two stolen bases put him on third. That allowed Egrie to score on a Baillargeon single to right field, giving Holy Cross a 1-0 lead.
• Holy Cross plated another in the top of the seventh on an RBI groundout to second base.
• In the home half, Taye Robinson walked and stole second to put a runner in scoring position. Brian Heckelman hit an RBI single to left field to score Robinson.
• The Crusaders scored three more in the top of the eighth inning on three hits and an error, extending their lead to 5-1.
• The Tigers got the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but the final batter was retired for a 5-1 win in favor of Holy Cross.
