WASHINGTON – The Towson University gymnastics team earned another strong score before the EAGL Championship next week, hitting a 195.975 team score to take second in the Maryland quad-meet.
Towson finished just .2 points behind host Maryland at 196.175. The Tigers defeated GW at 195.250 and Yale at 193.600. Towson's 195.975 is the third-highest team score of the season and highest away from home.
Clara Hong earned the uneven bars individual champion title of the meet with a 9.950. Towson had three other podium finishes:
Isabella DeCroo tied for second on floor at 9.850,
Isabella Minervini tied for third on bars at 9.900 while
Brissa Portillo took third on the beam at 9.850.
How it Happened for Towson (in Rotation Order)
- Bars – 49.300
- Lauren Keener got Towson started with a 9.800. On third spot, Clara Hong shined with a 9.950, her career-high and the best of the meet.
- Freshman Ava Harper came on and stuck a 9.800, then Chelsey Dennis entered for a 9.850. Isabella Minervini anchored with a 9.900, her seventh 9.9+ score on bars this year, to secure the 49.300.
- Beam – 48.450
- After a trio of 9.725s and a fall, Towson recovered on the final two performances. Clara Hong notched a 9.800 then Brissa Portillo earned a season-high 9.850 to finish the roation.
- Floor – 49.000
- All six performances for Towson finished with at least a 9.75. On the third spot, Isabella DeCroo notched a 9.850. Isabella Minervini followed up with a 9.800.
- On fifth turn, Clara Hong earned another big performance with an 9.825.
- Vault – 48.850
- Using three freshmen in the rotation, all performers earned at least a 9.725. On the fourth and sixth times, Towson freshmen Ava Harper and Callie Gardner each earned a 9.800.
