Towson Gymnastics Goes to 3-0 in EAGL Meets with Dual Meet Win at LIU

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Towson University gymnastics team took care of business on Sunday with a dual meet victory at LIU to improve to 3-0 in East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) competition.
 
Towson defeated LIU 195.650-193.100, including three 49+ rotation scores.  Towson won all four events, earning a 49.075 each on floor and bars, 49.050 on beam and 48.450 on vault.
 
Towson had an individual champion in every event: Isabella Minervini won the bars at 9.900, Clara Hong won the floor at 9.875 and tied for first on beam at 9.850 while Isabella DeCroo took first in vault at 9.825.
 
How it Happened for Towson (in Rotation Order)
  • Bars – 49.075
    • Towson got off to a strong start as Lauren Keener hit a 9.725, then Lauren Greene got a 9.800.  Brissa Portillo, going on bars in rotation for the first time this season, earned a 9.825.
    • Following a fall, Towson wiped it off with strong performances from the anchors.  Clara Hong notched a 9.825, then Isabella Minervini finished with a 9.900.
  • Vault – 48.450
    • Reese Toland led off the vault for the first time and hit a 9.625.  On third play, Ava Harper totaled a 9.800, her second-best finish of her freshman campaign.
    • Towson hit a couple of other strong marks, including Adriana Hoffman getting a 9.700 then Isabella DeCroo, on the anchor, hitting a 9.825.
  • Floor – 49.075
    • All six Towson rotation gymnasts earned at least a 9.7 on their performances.  Towson started out with a 9.775 from Carmella Calafati, a 9.800 from Isabella DeCroo and a career-best 9.775 for Reese Toland
    • On a second chance performance due to a floor issue, Ana Kenefick delivered by tying a career-best 9.850.  Clara Hong one-upped with a 9.875 to ensure Towson's 49+ score.
  • Beam – 49.050
Inside the Numbers
  • With the win, Towson is tied with George Washington at the top of the EAGL regular season standings at 3-0.  The two teams will have their EAGL competition on Mar. 14 at GW.
  • In Towson's last two dual meets, Towson has had the individual champion in all four events.
  • Several Tigers did exhibitions in the meet.  Ava Harper had a 9.775 on bars while Chayse Williams had a 9.725 on beam among others.
Next Meet
  • Towson has a quick turnaround, coming home for a tri-meet on Tuesday, Mar. 4 at 6 p.m.  Towson takes on George Washington, Penn and West Virginia.
