Softball Set For Weekend Trip to North Carolina A&T

TOWSON, Md. - The Towson University softball team is set for a road Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) series against North Carolina A&T from Friday, March 28-Sunday, March 30. Friday's opener is currently scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.

Scouting North Carolina A&T:
The Aggies currently hold a 7-23 record on the season after an 0-9 start to CAA play including losing all three games at UNCW last weekend. The Aggies currently lead the conference in triples and are fourth in homeruns. At the plate, North Carolina A&T is led by Katriel Williams who has hit to a .355/.398/.602 slashline with six triples and a pair of homeruns and twenty RBIs. Williams is one of five Aggies who have hit multiple homeruns on the season.
 
The Season in a Flash:
The Tigers began the 2025 season with a 2-3 record at the Terrier Invite hosted by Wofford University. Madyson Peters hit 6-12 including the game winning home run in Towson's 5-2 victory over Youngstown State in her first four games back from injury. Kristin Toland hit 5-12 with a double, triple and homerun over the weekend. Freshman Kayla Pilson threw four scoreless innings of relief and earned her first career win in her collegiate debut weekend.
Towson's record moved to 2-6 at the Battle at the beach as the Tigers lost games against Kent State, Notre Dame, and Marist. Kristin Toland hit 2 more homeruns to tie her for the CAA lead through two weeks with 3. Taylor Broadbent and Briyana Wright hit homeruns as well, and freshman Mackenzie Gorczyca hit an RBI triple for her first collegiate hit and run batted in.
The Black & Gold played three more games against George Washington, Iona, and UNC Greensboro at the UNCG Invitational. Isabella Canesi and Briyana Wright hit 2 homeruns each and Peters and Broadbent each hit their second home run of the season. The Tigers racked up 25 hits in a 20-16 win over George Washington before losing 15-9 against Iona and 5-0 to hosts UNCG to move to 3-8 on the season heading into the home opener.
The Tigers then returned home for the first time this season to host the DeMarini Tiger Clash. Towson defeated Coppin State 8-6 in a game that saw Toland hit her 4th homerun of the season. The Tigers then fell to Colgate 12-13 despite a Canesi homer and 4 RBI games from Cara Bohner and Grace Franczyk. Towson rebounded to beat Bryant 8-3 before losing a rematch to the Bulldogs 6-10 to end the weekend 2-2 and move to 5-10 overall. Freshman Kaci Benton hit her first homerun in the loss to Bryant.
Towson began the next week with a 7-5 win over UMES behind freshman pitcher Olivia Trombley's first career win and a 3 hit 2 RBI game from Jenna Giattino. Then the Tigers began CAA play with a home series vs Stony Brook, Towson won the first matchup 6-2 behind a complete game from Amanda Medina. However, the Seawolves then won back-to-back 8-7 victories to drop Towson to 7-12 overall.
Towson was victorious in its Strikeout Cancer game vs UMBC after Cadence Williams and Alyssa Bostley pitched Towson's first shutout of the season in a 4-0 win. The Tigers wrapped up the week taking 2 of 3 at Hofstra thanks to strong starts from Olivia Trombley on Saturday and Medina on Sunday.
A pair of midweek games led off the next week, the Tigers defeated Coppin State 10-2 behind 5.0 shutout innings from Williams and a Canesi homerun. The next day Trombley pitched 6.0 shutout innings to lead Towson to a 5-1 win over The Mount. Then Towson hosted a weekend series vs Campbell, the Camels won the first matchup 10-8 and the second game 6-1. The Tigers bounced back behind strong pitching performances from Williams and Medina to win 2-1 and close out a 3-2 week.
 
The Tigers stared off the following week with a 4-3 comeback win at George Mason.
 
 
Season Outlook:
Heading into Towson Softball's 50th season and Head Coach Lisa Costello's 30th season, Towson returns three of its top five batting averages from last season in Junior Cara Bohner (.305) and Grace Franczyk (.287) as well as senior Elizabeth Yoskowitz (.271). Top returners on the mound include sophomore Amanda Medina who finished with a 3.25 ERA in 66.2 innings as a freshman, and fellow second year player Faith McCullough who had a 3.32 ERA in 23 relief appearances. The Tigers will also see the return of redshirt senior catcher Madyson Peters who missed the 2024 season due to injury after being named to the All-CAA First Team in 2023.
 
Welcome to Towson:
Towson welcomes nine new players to the squad this season to replace thirteen departures. The Tigers add five freshmen in Virginia natives Kayla Pilson and Amanda Ashe, Colorado native Olivia Trombley, New Jersey native Kaci Benton, and Maryland native Mackenzie Gorczyca.
 
The Black & Gold also brought in four transfers including two from the University of Delaware in sophomore outfielder Jenna Giattino and junior infielder Anaya Troy. Towson also welcomes junior infielder Briyana Wright from Lipscomb and sophomore pitcher Cadence Williams from Southern Alabama.
